Water tank for Valuhi

The Valuhi (pronounced Val-U-We) village received a water tank donated by the Rotary Club of Maryborough, Victoria Australia.  Click on each picture for a larger version suitable for print.

The Maryborough Club provided funding to purchase a water tank, roofing and gutters.

We loaded up the truck

provided and piloted by club member Phillip Pinero and departed with Jim and Hellen Boswell and Eslyn from the Trading Post.   This was a long and difficult trip.  Valuhi village is one of the most remote villages accessible by road on Espiritu Santo.  We spent over 3 hours on unsealed roads crossing 2 rivers and traveling the last hour on a road rarely used by vehicles.

Phillip is a missionary and he calls on many villages in this area so he is accustom to trips like this but it was a first for the Boswell's and for Eslyn even though she is a native of Vanuatu.

The village was very enthusiastic about our arrival and put on a custom dance.  The child in green with the distended belly is suffering from a stomach problem brought on by bad water.  This is why we are supplying the water tanks.

The village was very enthusiastic about their water tank and they posed with Phillip to say a "Bigfala Tanku Tumas" (Big Fella Thank You Very Much) to the Rotary Club of Maryborough Victoria for their generous donation.
